Taekwondo Federations

World Taekwondo Federation Taekwondo is a full contact sport where it is allowed to kick to the head (throwing punches to the head are not allowed), it is not very dangerous to practice Tae kwon do. In a competition, full body protection is used to protect the competitors heads. To minimise the chances of head injuries, a competitor would not be allowed to fight in a competition three months if one was knockedoutt by a blow to the head. If this should happen again after these three months, you’re not allowed to participate for six months. Another K.O. to the head after this half year period results in a permanent exclusion of competitions.

International Taekwondo Federation Tae kwon do is so-called semi-contact. Practitioners not allowed to attack the head with full force. All the same, it is allowed to throw punches to the head, using the so-called “killing-blow”, stop just an inch before the target. To reduce injuries, ITF use gloves at sparring-competition.
